Stories of (extra) ordinary finds
By Rita Fracassi
Avezzano (AQ)- During the month of March, during the excavations carried out for the laying of the gas pipes, three tombs with capuchin roofs were identified. of a type of burial rather widespread in Roman times, especially in the imperial era and intended for the humble classes.
For a first analysis, the tombs discovered in Avezzano can be placed chronologically between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD.
Without accessories, except for a small earthenware jar, they are still a testimony of our past. Finding ourselves in front of the remains of men and women who lived centuries ago is always an intense emotion; in our heads a thousand questions crowd and we look for to grasp as many details as possible to reconstruct the aspects of the life of these people and therefore try to restore their history to our history. The find stress the importance of the presence of archaeologists during the work for the passage of the underground services, because every little piece is essential to reconstruct the mosaic of our past.
In the link the fb page managed by the official, responsible for the territory of Avezzano, of the Superintendence of Archeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Abruzzo, where you can find the three preliminary articles relating to the discovery.
